The push for Camp 3
May 12th, 2008 at 3:58 pm |
After a night of heavy snowfall, Team Marie Curie have pushed from Camp 2 up the Lhotse Face to Camp 3. Their aim is to ‘touch’ Camp 3 and then retreat down the mountain, spending the night at Camp 2 before leaving for Base Camp the following day.
The Team set off from Base Camp two days ago, reaching Camp 2 by lunchtime on Saturday May 10.
Base Camp, previously full of frustrated mountaineers, has now emptied – with climbers, keen to acclimatise, heading up the Icefall in their hundreds. This has lead to queues of up to an hour at the most difficult sections of the Icefall.
Once Sir Ranulph is back down in Base Camp, the acclimatisation process is over and the waiting game begins. What’s needed is a good weather window and the jet stream, that roars above the summit, to drop.

Dear Sir Ranulph, Kenton, Rob and Sripey Mouse
It was great to meet you all in London before you left for your amazing climb of Mount Everest.
I have often thought of you all out there in the cold when I have been nursing patients in the comfort of their own homes in the early hours of the mornings.
Thank you all so much for your wonderful support for Marie Curie Cancer Care and for making it possible for many more patients to be nursed in the comfort of their own homes.
I wish you all well for the next few days as you make your way to the summit and for a safe descent.
With all good wishes
Dawn
