First night at Camp 2
April 26th, 2008 at 11:14 am |
By lunchtime today Team Marie Curie had made it into Camp 2. They set off this morning from Camp 1 and walked up through the Western Cwm in the heat to Camp 2.
This will be the first night for the team at Camp 2. With a cook and a mess tent, Camp 2 (often also referred to as Advance Base Camp) is a bit of a staging post and once acclimatisation is complete, Camp 1 will be stripped out and the team will move straight from Everest Base Camp to Camp 2.
Sir Ranulph’s team is a small unit – but they share Base Camp facilities and logistics with several other small teams. To avoid over-crowding at any one camp a careful system is put in place, ensuring that these facilities are not over-stretched.
In this video Kenton Cool, Expedition Leader, talks from Base Camp to explain the ‘rolling system’ employed for acclimatisation on the mountain.

Dear Sir Ranulph and team,
Great luck climbing Everest and we hope you come back safely. We’ve climbed a mountain and pretended it was Everest.

Dear Sir Ranulph Fiennes,
After hosting your good friends and Bill’s Cousin Jill and her husband Bernard Firman of Exmoor for three weeks here in Texas, USA, we feel like we somewhat know you. For Christmas 2007 Jill gave us an autographed copy of your recent autobiography which we have so enjoyed. We wish you well on this major endeavor. Our prayers are with you and your team for a safe and successful climb. What an inspiration you are for all citizens of the world. Best of luck,
Deanna and Bill Bradshaw
