Back on the mountain

This morning, for the first time since April 28, Team Marie Curie are back on Everest.
They woke at 3.30am for breakfast and set off at 4am. Still dark; the twinkling headtorches of the Sherpas could be seen bobbing up the Icefall. Sherpas in Team Marie Curie’s camp lit juniper for good luck before setting off.
Dawn throws an eerie light across the camp, which is still and silent. The team have to weave their way under and around the streams of prayer flags in silence as they make their way to the bottom of the Icefall.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes said: “I’m looking forward to getting to Camp 3. I’ve heard a lot about it and it seems to be the beginning of the real ascent. What with the political shenanigans we have had it has been an impossible dream for a bit.”
The team will stay at Camp 2 today and then push on for Camp 3 in the morning.
