Conquer your own Everest

If you were asked to conquer your own personal Everest by taking on your ultimate challenge, what would it be?

That’s the question Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the “world’s greatest living explorer” (Guinness Book of Records), is asking people in 2008. In April this year Sir Ranulph Fiennes is climbing Everest for Marie Curie Cancer Care. 2008 is also the charity’s 60th anniversary year, and as if this weren’t reason enough to support us, Sir Ranulph is hoping to inspire people into taking on their own personal challenge for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

It doesn’t matter what you do – from a sponsored silence to climbing the height of Everest on a ladder, or achieving a personal ambition – as long as it’s a challenge for you. You can fundraise at home, at work, at school, at university or with your local group or club. There really is no limit on what you can do for us – in fact the wackier the better.

Five top ways to Conquer your very own Everest

  • Parachuting

Feel the adrenaline rush as you free fall through the sky at 120 mph and then glide calmly above the countryside, drifting down to the drop zone.

You can choose from three skydiving experiences; tandem jump, static line jump or accelerated freefall solo skydive. Registration costs vary, and if you hit your fundraising target, you can jump for free. The are jumps taking place across the country, all year round so there’s no excuse not to get jumping!

Join this amazing trek along the Inca Trail to the world famous lost city of Machu Picchu, and through the sacred valleys and picturesque towns and villages of the Andes.

Walk among the lush vegetation of the lower rainforest, climb through the high cloud forest and cross the snow line on the highest pass. Walking from one beautiful ruin to the next, you will be surrounded by views of the magnificent Andes – a truly unforgettable experience.

The trek takes place November 12-22, 2008 as well as May 21-31, 2009.

  • Rocky Mountain Cycle Challenge

This magnificent cycle challenge takes place in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The famous Banff and Jasper National Parks (UNESCO World Heritage Sites) offer breathtaking scenery on a grand scale: towering peaks, immense glaciers, alpine meadows and spectacular canyons.

Along the way you will encounter the Bow Valley Parkway with its dramatic mountain vistas; glittering Lake Louise set against the stark Victoria Glacier; Icefield Parkway, one of the world’s most scenic roads and its centrepiece - the Columbia Icefield - one of the largest glacial masses this side of the Arctic Circle. It is a ride of awesome proportion and one on which you will earn every penny of sponsorship raised.

The trip is a 377 kilometre cycling challenge over 6 days in June 2009.
